Time Management Tips for Entrepreneurs

"Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money, but you cannot get more time." - Jim Rohn

As an entrepreneur, your time is precious. When you have a variety of tasks, people, and responsibilities, it can often feel like there is not enough time in the day to get everything accomplished. This is why time management is crucial for you, your business, and your overall well-being. So, today, we want to chat about a few ways in which you can use your time efficiently.

Create a schedule

One of the best ways to use your time wisely is by creating a schedule for yourself. Develop either a daily, or weekly outline to help organize your tasks and meetings to keep you on track. Consider sharing your work calendar with your team members so that they are aware of what your day or week looks like and can visualize when you are available. It also serves as a visual reminder of what you have committed yourself to and enables you the ability to plan accordingly.

Prioritize tasks

As an entrepreneur, you are inundated with a plethora of things that are required of you with every passing hour! However, it is imperative that you identify the most important, and time-sensitive tasks. It is easy to get distracted and feel the need to do everything at once. However, you are much better off to focus on the high priority items that require your immediate attention.

Teamwork makes the dream work

As a leader, you are only as strong as your team. Therefore, it is vital to surround yourself with people who make your job easier. Delegate tasks, ask for feedback, and work collaboratively to help increase productivity within the entire organization. It can be tempting to multitask when you are a business owner! However, this is a habit that results in time being wasted and can demonstrate to your employees that you lack trust in your team.

“Efficient time management is one of the most important skills for busy entrepreneurs to ensure the smooth functioning of their business. No matter how packed your schedule is, as the business head, you have to allocate the right amount of time to each task.”

Use technology

Technology has limitless options, and leveraging these tools can be a life saver for small business owners. Whether it be cloud-based project management tools, or productivity apps, utilize technology to help boost productivity. From Miro, to Asana, to Microsoft Planner, it is amazing how technology can help keep you organized and on schedule.

Technology can also free up valuable time that is spent doing things manually, scrambling to remember where you put something, or what your upcoming commitments include, which can waste valuable time.

Implement time blocking

Time blocking is a technique where you schedule blocks of time during your day to accomplish specific tasks. As business owners, we are often guilty of taking on too much, and attempt multi-tasking to hit those deadlines. When you time block, you allow yourself time to focus on a specific goal. Whether it be 15 minutes or one hour, block your time so that you can complete important tasks, and meet deadlines in a timely manner.

Review your processes

It is likely that what worked at one time, might not work going forward. Therefore, regularly review your internal processes and procedures as a business to ensure that time is being spent effectively. On a personal level, do the same. Evaluate what has worked well, and where improvements could be made. It is important to adjust your approaches accordingly so that you, and your team are optimizing their time and productivity.

Remember, time management is an ongoing process! With curve balls being thrown in your direction all the time, you will need to find the right balance and processes for you and your business. We hope these tips help and allow you the opportunity to evaluate your time management skills and navigate your workday more effectively!
